The Beginning of the Viticulture of the Douro Region


The pair of wine, this region's fertile land has other species of agriculture, on which stand the decayed olives, high quality olive oil that they produce, and the almond, by the spectacle of flowering trees that provide in the months of February and March, and by the importance of the typical sweets of almond. Pastoralism is an activity which is current in some areas, resulting in many gastronomic dishes, produced in the traditional way. The veal and lamb roasts are the main dishes of the region but those passing through cannot miss to taste the sausages, artisanal cheeses and regional sweets.
In Nature arise in memories of the past, etched in stone or built with the most varied forms. The romans, arabs, visigoths, suevi, all have left traces scattered through the lands of the Douro, and that the first were the men from this period. Each era in history has left evidence of its existence, that have survived the passing of the years. The Average Age remained in the catholic temples, from the smallest to the most extravagant and stunning.
With the beginning of the wine industry, the nobles and the burghers began to settle in the region, building a large number of manor houses and palaces that still today embellish the towns and typical villages and play host to tourists and visitors. Many of the farms, situated often on the slopes of the mountains, offering accommodation in direct contact with the agricultural activities. A stay intimate, romantic, full of new sensations is what provides this type of entertainment. In the villages are also beautiful examples of rural tourism with a local welcoming and unique.
