A Trip into the past with the Future Development...
In addition to the cruises or the most usual
means, the trip to the Douro can be made by train, with the river to accompany
the trip. In the region there are some disabled lines, which now serve as bike
paths. There is also a centennial train that runs through a part of the region,
taking us back to the first years of the previous century.
When disembarking in the city of Porto, the
means that transport the tourists to the Douro are several, so they should be
chosen according to the preferences of each one. If the journey through the
waters of the Douro gives unique views to the vineyards, the train journey is
not far behind, making us contemplate the other side of the coin. With the
river to accompany our route, the train crosses the region, establishing the
connection between the Campanhã and São Bento stations in porto, and the main
points of the region.
The arrival at the Invicta stations can be
done through the metro, since both have a station where the vehicle comes from
the airport. There are several trains during the day that connect with the Peso
da Régua or the Pocinho station in the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa.
The trip to Régua station lasts between one and a half to two hours, while the
trip to Pocinho lasts about three and a half hours.
Once in Régua you can travel in the
historical train, a steam locomotive, with 250 seats, distributed by five
carriages. This train connected to the Tua station, which is now deactivated,
due to the construction of a dam in the region, which will submerge the railway
circuit. However, the tourist train continues to have connection with the
Pinhão station.
The Linha do Sabor, which connects
the Pocinho station to the Duas Igrejas parish in Miranda do Douro, which has
also been turned off, has been transformed into an Ecopista. This route has
been adapted so that it can be walked or cycled.
